Happy August! I feel like we are really living in a reality show the last few years, especially now. With elections, the Paris Olympics, wars, and everything else going on under the sun, sometimes I feel like everything would be fixed if we all just stopped and danced. Maybe if we put together something like “We Are the World” in 1985, everybody could can just chill!
I know… wishful thinking or maybe complete delusion. In the meantime, here’s a light edition of this week’s newsletter.
Today’s newsletter includes:
Story Time - Lessons From My Death Bed. 13 years ago I flatlined for 2 minutes.
Lineups for the Weekend - Go out & shake it fast… and watch yourself.
Breakdancing is Making its Debut at the 2024 Paris Olympics
(Don’t forget that everything in pink text is clickable including the flyers for more info).
And a reminder to share this newsletter. Nothing in life is free, but this is. So, go on & share! Thanks.
Lessons From My Death Death Bed
On August 1, 2011 (11 days after my last child was born) I lost so much blood due to hemorrhaging, and just like that my life flashed before my eyes.
It’s been 13 years since I flatlined on a hospital bed.
I’ll be 37 years old in November and after this experience + more living & learning, there are some lessons that I hold on to.
Be happy now.
Don’t be complacent — ever or anywhere.
If you don’t like where you are, move. You are not a tree.
Stop doing things that don’t fulfill you.
There’s never a perfect time. Do it today.
Hugs are free.
Take a lot of pictures, but also live in the moment.
Tell people you love them today.
Don’t let the sun go down on your anger.
Call people out on their shit.
Acknowledge your own shit.
Nobody owes you a damn thing.
Expect nothing from no one.
Forgive yourself and others.
Life is too short to be around people who don’t light your fire.
Tell your story. Then tell it again.
Nothing in life is a coincidence.
Nothing is guaranteed except for taxes and death.
And as cliché as it sounds, dance like no one’s watching.
